Lego Crazy

Now who doesn’t like Legos?  Kids and adults alike, at whatever age, love to play with Legos, and I honestly believe that a set of Legos is the best toy any kid can own.  It helps to stimulate creative minds and is never rigid, given its endless building opportunities.  What’s more, Legos are never gender-specific.

So Ethan and Hannah was ecstatic when Daddy returned home from US several weeks ago with a Lego set each for each of them.  Ethan has been “upgraded” to the smaller and more intricate Legos whilst Hannah got the Lego Duplo set.  And oh, both sets were equally fascinating!

In just less than a day, Ethan managed to finished constructing this house…complete with a drink shack and a Lego man holding a cup!

Hannah had her fun with her Cinderella and Prince Charming’s castle, complete with beautiful turrets, blankets and a dining table set!

Ethan took it a few steps further a few days later by building a more advanced version of a Lego house!  “Construction” was delayed for a few days because two of the small Lego pieces got stuck fast together and I had to google and figure out the best way to tear them apart. 🙂

Here’s the final product…sans the palm tree though: A beautiful 2-storey beach house!  Great work, Ethan!

It even includes a sun roof/air well that can be opened and closed as preferred.

Don’t you just LOVE the detailing on these Lego sets?

Fridays and Sundays

During one of our conversations and discussions on where to eat out on rare occasions such as weekends:

Hannah: Mommy, I wanna eat sundae…

Me: Sundae?  You can’t eat just a sundae for lunch, baby…

Hannah: But I wanna eat sundae!! *pouts her signature pout*

Me (deciding to play along): Okay, so where do you intend to eat your sundae?  Is it a vanilla, chocolate or strawberry sundae?

Hannah: No, Mommy…I wanna eat sundae, so I can get a BALLOON!

Me (trying to figure out what she meant): A balloon??!

Hannah: Yeah, like last week when you said I could choose? I wanna eat AT sundae so I can get a balloon after that!

Me (trying hard not to laugh too much): Ohhhhhhh…….Hannah, you mean Friday’s!!  Not Sunday’s!  Yes, you will get a balloon when we eat at Friday’s!  Hehe.

 

Our Little Ipoh Adventure

Two weeks ago, Daddy was away for a short business trip to the States, and so I decided to make a trip with the kids and their grandparents (who was in Penang for a couple of days) back to Ipoh.  It has been a while since the kids visited Ipoh so they were naturally excited.

The drive was pleasant as the traffic was very light and the weather was cool and slightly cloudy.

My Pretty Dolly Surprise!

Last Friday, Mommy told me there was a surprise waiting for me at home.  I asked her to tell me what it was, but she wouldn’t, so I had to wait till I got home.

I saw a large rectangular parcel wrapped up by my table and eagerly tore open the wrapper.  I gasped as I saw what was wrapped inside.  It was that Barbie Dress-Up Set that Mommy told me she had recently won in a contest!

Hehe…it was finally HERE!  I had been bugging Mommy for it every day since she told me, and now I can’t believe I am seeing it in real life!

Look at the dresses, shoes, handbags and hairband this set came with!  Wheeee!!  I immediately asked Mommy to help me remove each and every item in that set.  Mommy said it’s for me to play dressing up Barbie with.  I brought out my other Barbie doll (which had only one dress then), and then I started dressing both my Barbies up!

Yes, you can definitely tell that I was over the moon!  I kept telling Mommy, “Wow…I’m SOOOOOOO happy, Mommy!”

Mommy says she’s gonna get me a box to put all my Barbie stuff in, so they don’t get lost.  Look how pretty they are! 😀

Ferry Cross the Mersey…errr….Blue Sea :)

You know how we always say that people take things for granted just because some things are considered easily accessible to them?  For example, Ipoh people don’t really fancy pomelos that much and Klang Valley residents don’t dig Ikea and all that jazz?

Well, we’re just as guilty.. 😛 and I will tell you why.

Despite living in Penang for so many years now, we have NEVER taken the kids on a ferry ride.  The bridge has always been the easier and more convenient option for us.  However, during the past school holidays, since we had not planned on travelling anywhere, we decided to take the kids for an adventure on the ferry.

They were excited to say the least, and kept asking us when we were gonna reach the ferry terminal.  We had a few errands to run before that, you see…

The queue to board the ferry wasn’t long so we were relieved, but you know kids, they get really impatient…

“When are we getting on the ferry, Daddy?”

“Hey Daddy, why are those motorbikes cutting queue?”

“Why is the ferry not here yet?”

“I wonder how many vehicles can go on the ferry?!”

Finally, after about 10-15 minutes of waiting, we boarded the ferry.  The kids were super excited!

Here are a few shots I managed to take while ensuring the kids stayed safe while catching a glimpse of the sea.  Pete had to stay in his car, because for some reason, his car alarm would sound as the ferry rocked to and fro.

It was a fun trip for us all.  We drove to Sunway Carnival Mall and had our dinner there before heading for home…this time, we used the bridge 😛

A Morning Encounter with Butterflies

A couple of weeks back, Hannah went on another field trip with her class, and this time they made a trip to the Butterfly Farm.  Hannah was naturally excited, although she had already been there before, and although it was a scorching hot day, it was evident that she and her friends had loads of fun!

Simply Groovy: Hannah’s Playgroup Event

Recently, Hannah’s class put on a concert event called the Playgroup Event.  It involved the kids from the three playgroup classes in her school, which meant the audience was treated to 2-3 year-olds on stage.

Hannah was very excited about the event, and although she woke up that morning announcing she was “too lazy” and didn’t want to wear sunglasses, she certainly did a 180º turn during the event.

Although it was a weekday morning, Hannah was definitely very happy to see her Daddy able to make it, albeit a little late.  Well, nothing beats watching your little gal sing and dance on stage like this, eh? 🙂

I, for one, definitely enjoyed it!  Great job Hannah!  Doesn’t she look absolutely adorable? 🙂

(Customized) Baby Legs

I have several pairs of baby legs which I had forgotten all about, until one night when Hannah was dressed in her shorts jammies and said she felt a little cold.  So I suggested wearing baby legs.

Her curiosity was aroused and she wanted to know what those were.  After she had donned a pair of baby legs, I told her that she could also wear them on her hands.

She was game, so there she was in 2 pairs of baby legs, one on her legs and one on her hands.  She also didn’t seem to reject the baby legs, like her brother did when I put them on him last time.

On the contrary, she proudly proclaimed, “Look Mommy, I’m wearing Baby Legs, AND Baby Hands!” 🙂

Let the Games Begin! – Sports Day 2012

A couple of weeks ago, the kids had their annual Sports Day in school.  Both of them were equally excited about the event, as they had practised very hard for their events.  For Hannah, it was her first ever Sports Day and the first time she donned her yellow school t-shirt.  For Ethan, it was his last Sports Day in pre-school/kindergarten and he and his other K2 classmates were also involved in a fund-raising bake sale.

Each K2 child would be in charge of selling a single food item (30 packs each), and this was what I made for Ethan to sell:

Of course, a chunk of fun from this project came from the help the kids gave me in packing the cupcakes in their boxes, and errr….(not) threatening to eat them before the sale date.

The combo sign Ethan made for the Red Velvet Cupcakes.  They didn’t have space for one item per sign, so the kids had to share it.

…and here’s our first customer!  Such great support from you, Tess!  Thank you!

The event proper started off with the lighting of the torch a la Olympics style and then they had the march past of all the classes.

We had a pleasant surprise when it was Hannah’s class’s turn for the march past.  Our little girl was holding the class sign leading her class to the field!

She looked so determined and yet so cute at the same time!

Mastering Chopsticks

Whenever I serve noodles or koay teow at home, Hannah will request to eat with a pair of chopsticks.  We only have one pair of training chopsticks though, so sometimes she needs to compromise with her brother; but thank goodness her brother is usually very accommodating, and she gets to train with the chopsticks.

I’ll have to say Hannah is doing pretty well for a three-year-old!  She can finish her bowl of koay teow by using that pair of chopsticks.

First, grab some koay teow with the chopsticks:

Then, place carefully onto spoon…careful there with the coordination ;P …

Lastly, the easiest part: place spoonful of koay teow into mouth!
