Relatives, friends and even strangers have offered their opinions on who Ethan resembles. Most of them say he resembles Pete whilst just a handful say that he looks like me. However, a picture speaks a thousand words…so judge for yourself…

All about Ethan
Ever since our Ethan boy was born, he has very little hair. In fact in the early weeks, I jokingly referred to his lack of hair as premature baldness or male-pattern baldness. He used to have 2 patches of hair on the sides and the middle portion of his head was bald. Then slowly the hair in the middle portion of his head began to grow to what it is today. However, at the back of his head now, there is still a bald patch with virtually no hair. We call it the Zidane patch, after the great footballer Zinedine Zidane. Does this indicate our boy will follow in the footsteps of Zidane with football glory in his future?
Determined to get Ethan accustomed to the water, we took Ethan for another dip in the pool. The baby pool was rather hot and unshady and conquered by some other kids, so we took him to the shallow end of the adult pool instead. There was no one there at that time, so it was the perfect opportunity for him to discover the water. I first went into the pool and showed him how fun it was, splashing on the water.
Then when I carried him in, he started kicking his feet!…. and smiling! Slowly I began floating him in the water, all the time talking to him reassuringly. Our boy was enjoying himself!
He proves to be a water baby after all…
Whee!!! I’m having so much fun!!

I’m bored now Daddy… can we call it a day?
Six full months of drinking breast milk only has earned Ethan the right to move on to solid food. On the menu today, I prepared rice cereal mixed with expressed breast milk, stirred to a runny consistency. We put him in his yellow Bumbo seat, got him garbed in a bib, had a hanky ready and proceeded to feed him.The first mouthful was met with a sour look and a “What’s that you are feeding me, Mommy?” expression.
Most of the cereal dribbled out the corner of his mouth though. He then grabbed the feeding spoon and began to play with it. Of course, we were hoping he would feed himself la…. hehehe… no such luck as he only used the spoon to hit the Bumbo seat and tried to chew on it.
All in all, a successful first attempt and I am not complaining. Six months of exclusive breastfeeding also earned Mommy a “present”: a slice of yummy apple crumble cheese cake 🙂

Pete and I had a really good time bathing Ethan last night. It will go down as one of the best baths ever. The little fellow kicked and splashed with his hands and feet, until Daddy also had his face wet! Somehow he had more energy last night and was REALLY hyperactive, enjoying every moment of his bath time.Ethan has come a long way, bath-wise. I still remember the very first time Pete bathed Ethan. He was such a fragile baby then and we were so very careful – afraid that he might just slip out of our hands. He bawled the first time he had his bath, perhaps afraid of the water. Or maybe he just did not like the feeling of nakedness.
By and by, we slowly but surely let him enjoy his bath by first wiping his face and then his body and then bathing him in the tub. I remember both grandmas bathing him once too. He was still rather docile then….. But I think his grandmas would not be able to handle his activeness in the tub nowadays; he would flap his arms and kick his feet, splashing water all over the place! Not to mention wriggling and rolling and giggling!
Pete is very adept at bathing Ethan now and is the house expert 🙂 I am positive that Ethan looks forward to every session he is being bathed by Daddy. What with the male bonding and all. I’m looking forward to more exciting moments bathing Ethan and I can’t wait to witness his antics tonight during bath time! What an awesome way to unwind and end the day!
Ethan has said his first word.
It ain’t “Daddy” as was expected. And it ain’t “Mommy” too. There ain’t no “dada-baba” sounds either.
Our boy has uttered his first monosyllable word and it is becoming apparent that it is most definitely…..“Where?”
During playtime, we would inadvertently hear him go “Where?” over and over and over again.
Ah well… shows that he is a curious child anyway….. actually more like kepo. Heh. Wonder whose trait he took after.
Ethan loves his doggies. Soft toy doggies, that is.
He has 2 really soft toy doggies named Whiffer and Plopper, and he really adores them! We always see him hugging and kissing his doggies. Err….. well come to think of it, we also sometimes catch him licking and sucking on his doggies’ paws too.

He also has a red doggy who barks when his nose is squeezed, and our boy would laugh happily whenever he sees this doggy. Could be the color that attracts his attention though. This one also, he would hug and kiss (and lick and suck).

…oh, by the way, did I mention that he was born in the Chinese zodiac calendar in the year of the dog?
Took Ethan “swimming” today at the baby pool in our apartment. Actually it was an unplanned occasion, as we had planned on taking him only at 6 months. But while shopping yesterday, we got a really huge bargain on the swim diapers and I promptly bought a pair.Eager to try the swim diapers out, we decided to take Ethan for a quick dip dressed in his new “swimming trunks”. He really looked like a big boy in the trunks, if I might say so myself. Anyway, already 5.5 months, so he should be ready for the pool, given the fact that he kicks and squeals happily during his bath time.
Upon reaching the water’s edge, I went into the pool first and then carried Ethan and sat him on the edge of the wall of the pool. He looked slightly confused – he must be thinking “How did my bathtub get so large?”. I then sat him on my knees, and slowly got him accustomed to the water. But when I tried to make him float on his front, he started making “manja” sounds…never mind, will try again another day.
Pete and I took Ethan to church today. He was fidgety and restless throughout church and nearing the end he was really hungry (and angry, I might add!)… so I fed him before we left church.
There is supposedly no water supply today till 7:00p.m. so we decided to spend the day out.
We headed for Gurney Plaza and had lunch at Nando’s where Ethan (again) manja to be carried. It was a field day of window shopping in Gurney Plaza (for mommy, at least!). Ethan boy enjoyed himself a great deal and although he fell asleep on certain occasions, I could tell he was really taking in the sights and sounds, flapping his arms all the time, and staring at everything with those big brown eyes of his.
After Gurney Plaza we went to Penang Plaza, where Ethan basked in all the attention of a sales promoter in Guardian. We had dinner in Cherry Sweet (thab-thim-krob) and left for home after that.
What a tiring (but rewarding) day Pete and I had.
Ethan boy finally rolled over today! He was relaxing faced up on his mattress and I was just lying next to him. He turned his head to face me and as I spoke to him, he lifted his right leg over his left, used his arms to steady himself and *flipped* himself on his front!
I was ecstatic! Heh… it didn’t matter that Ethan did not know what to do now that he has rolled over. He seemed amused and surprised with the new view he had made himself see, and didn’t mind being on his front at all!
Well, I guess the next step is crawling (gasp!) but for now I will enjoy watching his manouevres while he rolls over every so often.

Here I go….uhhh…uhhh…….ummmph!!

Ta-daaa..!!!!!
