Hannah: Mommy, Daddy is not pregnant, right?

Me: No, he is not.

Hannah: Only you are pregnant, right?  Daddy, Ethan and Hannah are NOT pregnant.

Me: That’s right.

Ethan (in his usual big brother “I know more than you” style): Hannah, only girls can get pregnant, NOT boys.

Hannah: Oh.

Ethan: And do you know why?

Hannah: No, Ethan. Why?

Ethan: Because…you know, a baby will come out from the tummy from the private.  And only girls’ private is big enough for the baby to come out from.  In boys, the hole in the private is too small!

Hannah: Oh.

Ethan: Hannah, do you know why you cannot get pregnant now?

Hannah (thinking): No, Ethan.  Why?

Ethan: Because….you are still a small girl, and not an adult.  Your private is too small and the baby cannot come out from there yet.  A baby can only come out from an adult’s private!

Ethan has been constantly reading my favorite book in conception and pregnancy by Dr Miriam Stoppard, and has been learning a whole lot of stuff about babies and pregnancy. 🙂

(N.B: By the way, my kids know the correct term for male and female genitalia: i.e. penis and vagina, although they also use the term “private” to refer to them interchangeably)

During one of our conversations and discussions on where to eat out on rare occasions such as weekends:

Hannah: Mommy, I wanna eat sundae…

Me: Sundae?  You can’t eat just a sundae for lunch, baby…

Hannah: But I wanna eat sundae!! *pouts her signature pout*

Me (deciding to play along): Okay, so where do you intend to eat your sundae?  Is it a vanilla, chocolate or strawberry sundae?

Hannah: No, Mommy…I wanna eat sundae, so I can get a BALLOON!

Me (trying to figure out what she meant): A balloon??!

Hannah: Yeah, like last week when you said I could choose? I wanna eat AT sundae so I can get a balloon after that!

Me (trying hard not to laugh too much): Ohhhhhhh…….Hannah, you mean Friday’s!!  Not Sunday’s!  Yes, you will get a balloon when we eat at Friday’s!  Hehe.

Ethan was telling me about his playground sessions in school.

Ethan: Mommy, today we went to the playground again.
Me: You did? What did you play today?
Ethan: Oh the same thing…Dragons!
Me: Did you play only with the boys or both boys and girls?
Ethan: Only with the boys, Mommy.
Me: Oh why?
Ethan: Oh because the girls don’t like playing Dragons.  The girls wanna play *PRINCESS*. (He did the high pitch kinda tone when he said the word *PRINCESS*)
Me: (laughing) Oh really?  But don’t some of the boys act as Princes to save the Princess from the Dragon?
Ethan: Nooooooo….all the boys are DRAGONS.  And we chase all the princesses away!

During one of my usual laidback chats with Ethan, I asked him (for the umpteenth time) if he would like to take an afternoon nap.

Ethan: No thank you, Mommy!  I’m still 100% active and I can play ALL DAY LONG!
Me: Gosh, you’re so weird…I would LOVE to take an afternoon nap!
Ethan: No, I’m not weird Mommy!  Girls are weird!  They cry when they’re happy!

*rolls eyes*

That gave Daddy a look of smug satisfaction on his face.

I have several pairs of baby legs which I had forgotten all about, until one night when Hannah was dressed in her shorts jammies and said she felt a little cold.  So I suggested wearing baby legs.

Her curiosity was aroused and she wanted to know what those were.  After she had donned a pair of baby legs, I told her that she could also wear them on her hands.

She was game, so there she was in 2 pairs of baby legs, one on her legs and one on her hands.  She also didn’t seem to reject the baby legs, like her brother did when I put them on him last time.

On the contrary, she proudly proclaimed, “Look Mommy, I’m wearing Baby Legs, AND Baby Hands!” 🙂

I finally took the kids for their long-overdue hair cut yesterday evening, and after we got home, Hannah kept looking in the mirror, admiring herself and smiling as if posing for the camera.

Mommy: Hannah, why do you keep looking at yourself in the mirror?
Hannah: Because I look NICE, Mommy! 😀

Together

I overheard this conversation between the kids a couple of days ago:

Hannah (in Chinese):  吗?

Translation: Would you like to drink “mei lu”?

Ethan replied: What’s that? No, I don’t want to drink beautiful road!”

Hehe. 🙂

Hannah was referring to Milo, but because the pronunciation for “Beautiful Road” is the same, that would explain Ethan’s cheeky response.

(By the way, I asked for some help from Hannah’s teacher on how to write “mei lu” in Chinese Characters; in case you were wondering… :P)

private-bulats

Lately there have been instances when Pete and I would be discussing something in the car, and Ethan would ask, “What are you talking about Mommy?” or something to that effect.

We then told him it was PRIVATE, and it was only to be discussed between Daddy and Mommy.

So since then, sometimes he would come over and ask me if what I was reading on the computer was private or not, and if he was allowed to see it.

Then one day, Ethan and Hannah was chatting in the car (as usual) and they started giggling.  I instinctively asked, “What’s so funny, guys?  Can you share it with Mommy?”

Ethan immediately replied, “No Mommy, it’s PRIVATE! I’m just having a discussion with Hannah.”

In my face. 😛

Hannah woke up with a big smile, and with big brown eyes, she asked me, “Mommy, is today the day for our Family Day?”

I said yes, and she smiled even more. 🙂

This year, instead of the usual Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day celebration in school, we had a Family Day celebration in Golden Sands Hotel outdoors instead.  So 2 Sundays ago saw us all making a trip to Batu Feringghi.

The kids were, of course, excited about the whole thing, because part of the program was a play session in AdventureZone!

The event was themed Batik Beach Day, so I got them all to dress up in batik attire:

Weather that day was slightly threatening, and we were treated to intermittent showers during the event.

Nevertheless, we all had a lot of fun, as can be seen in the pictures I managed to capture below:

Getting ready for…

batikbeach3

Every Limbo boy and girl
All around the Limbo world
Gonna do the Limbo rock
All around the Limbo clock

batikbeach4

Jack be Limbo, Jack be quick
Jack go under Limbo stick
All around the Limbo clock
Hey, let’s do the Limbo rock!
batikbeach5

Initially, our little princess was feeling restless and rather sleepy…

batikbeach6

…but soon warmed up and participated in the fun activities (although some were quite haphazard LOL)…

batikbeach7

Daddy also participated in the tug-o-war on the beach…look at Daddy go! 😀

batikbeach8

The tug-o-war event was divided into 3 categories: Daddies, Mommies and kids… let me just say that it’s not very flattering to be pulling hard on a rope when you’re dressed in a sarong pareo.  Good thing Daddy forgot to use the zoom on my camera 😛

We then adjourned to AdventureZone for a little while (no pictures, sorry!) and then moved on to another fun activity which we all enjoyed: The Sand Castle building competition.

It took some practice to get the ratio of sand to water right in order to erect structures on the beach.  The kids had a blast helping to collect water, pat the sand into buckets and then create our sandcastle.

batikbeach12

We had no plan in mind whatsoever what to build, but ended up creating a fish-shaped castle.  Can you see the fish? 😛

batikbeach11

It was a truly fun-filled Family Day and the kids especially had a whale of a time!  We were all exhausted but everyone enjoyed themselves 🙂

reason

Hannah has a habit of biting on straws when she drinks from them.  Obviously the straw will become flat and eventually she won’t be able to drink from it anymore.

This conversation took place just now when I was helping her “unflatten” her straw from her Vitagen drink.

“Mommy, I cannot drink from the straw…”
“Here, let me help you…now Hannah, you need to remember to try not to bite on the straw when you drink, okay?”
“But…but….”
“..otherwise the straw will go flat and you won’t be able to drink from it anymore…”
“But Mommy…I cannot!  My teeth are in the way!”

Priceless reasoning?  You bet. 😀

**By the way, I have no idea where she learnt how to pose like that.  She just wanted a picture with Ronald McDonald and came up with it herself!***
