All about Hannah

In addition to her party at Adventurezone, Hannah wanted a small birthday cake cutting session in school too.  I guess at her age, she can never have enough parties, eh? 🙂

She had been indecisive about the birthday cake she wanted me to bake for her, but when I gave her a Princess Anna dress a few weeks ago, she decided that she wanted a Frozen-themed cake.  I had no idea she was into Frozen to begin with!! 🙂

Her actual birthdate fell on the day after her Adventurezone party, and since she had had an accident the evening before, she decided that she would only go to school for that half hour, to cut the cake and pass out party packs to her classmates.

This was the cake I baked for her: a Frozen-themed watercolor cake, with three layers of butter cake in three different colors, topped with buttercream frosting and blue glittery sugar.

Obviously I reduced the sugar content in the cake, because the frosting itself would have provided loads of sweetness.

Stuff we packed the party packs with: Customized Frozen-themed water bottles, homemade glitter playdough and custom-packed marshmallows.

Her birthday continued at home as she opened up our presents for her… she got the watch from Daddy that she had been asking for 😛

…and a musical jewellery box from me (which was a pleasant surprise!)

It was a special day for a very special birthday girl!  Happy Birthday Hannah!

Hannah had a birthday celebration with her friends at AdventureZone yesterday, which is a day before her birthday proper.  AdventureZone always makes the kids eager, excited and brings out the energy and adrenalin in everyone.

SOoooooo much easier to take pictures of the wee babes because the older ones were zipping past me so fast!!

Hannah conquered her fear of going down the blue slide and now confidently slides down it like a pro.

Next time, she says she’s gonna go down the “scary” red slide!

The kids all enjoyed themselves and even continued playing at the slide area after they were done with their food and cake.

However, an unfortunate accident happened when we got home. 🙁

Hannah tripped and fell and knocked her head on the open grille door in our house.  She had an open wound on her forehead and after I cleaned her up and gave her a quick shower, we took her to the doctor.  Thankfully, the doctor said the wound was a shallow one, and she only used 3 steristrips to hold it close.  Then she covered the wound with a sheet of waterproof plaster.  We will be going back to the medical center to have it removed 4-5 days later.

Despite the unfortunate incident, our little big girl Hannah, ever so courageous, remained cheerful and happy.  She came back home and asked to open her presents!

Happy Birthday dearest Hannah!

May your days be filled with happiness and rainbows now and forevermore!

For Ethan’s 9th birthday this year, we decided to have a cozy celebration at home. Hannah suggested having an Amazing Race birthday party, and what is a race without sharing it with friends, eh?  So we said he could invite his best friend.  So I planned the “amazing race” for two teams: Ethan & Hannah in one team and Josha & Elisha in another.

Unfortunately, Elisha was not well on that day, so we bended the rules a little and the two teams were then Ethan, Hannah and Josha in one team, and Peter and Emma in another. LOL!

She had been waiting anxiously for this moment since her bottom two incisors started wiggling about 2 weeks ago.  And just yesterday while we were out shopping, the inevitable happened.  A milestone for my little snowflake Hannah.

Just 3 weeks shy of her 6th birthday, she excitedly announced that her tooth had fallen out.  I was queueing up to pay for our purchases when it happened, so Daddy gave her some tissues and napkins to clean up and wrap her tooth carefully.

See how tiny it is?

When we got home, Hannah wrote a short note to the Tooth Fairy and at night she placed it under her pillow.

She woke up excitedly today, and showed me the note the Tooth Fairy had left her.  She even took it to school to show her teacher!

She showed Ethan the note too, and when Ethan saw it, he said, “It looks like Mommy’s writing!” 😛

On scorching hot and humid Chinese New Year-like weather days like these, we love staying indoors, just hanging out with each other.

To keep extra cool, we love lying down on the floor …. and looking adorable!

Our two older kids started their 2015 catechism classes two weeks ago.  For Ethan, he would be proceeding into the Std 3 class, whereas for Hannah, it was the beginning of a new experience as she started her class in the Preschool level.

The kids were super excited on that first day because they would be going to class with their best friends. 🙂 Hannah had been looking forward to this day for a long time now.

What’s important is that they now enjoy their sessions and look forward to it each week.  Ethan and Hannah are aiming for 100% attendance this year. 😀

What this means for us is that we now have 1.5 hours alone with baby Emma on Saturday afternoons while her siblings are in church. 🙂

Now what can we do with all that time?  Perhaps we can go hang out and have some coffee… 🙂

sunflowerbloom1

After 5 months of planting our first batch of sunflower seeds, and nurturing them with love, water and sunshine, three sunflower plants stand tall, healthily growing each day (Mommy’s and Daddy’s unfortunately didn’t make it.  Not even one!).

One of these three plants will have a pretty sunflower bloom soon, and it’s Ethan’s plant!

We’re eagerly awaiting the happy day, any day now!

During the long year-end holidays that just passsed, we decided that Ethan and Hannah should make full use of it to learn a lifelong skill in swimming.  I planned for an “intensive” 10-coaching sessions course for them, and worked hard to ensure they completed it before the craziness of the school term began.

swimcoach1

I’m pleased to say that we completed our ten lessons on the Friday before school began.

Even more so, in just 10 lessons, I’m so proud that Ethan and Hannah can now float and move in the water.  They are no longer afraid of putting their heads underwater and have gained water confidence in leaps and bounds.  Both kids are learning their forward crawl, and also a little bit of backstroke.

With a little bit more practice, we should be able to add the breathing part of the crawl. 🙂

The kids really look forward to each coaching session, and don’t even mind the slight drizzle during some lessons.  It helps that the coach was super cool with kids and he was able to tailor each lesson to each kid as he deemed fit.  For instance, Hannah was initially more comfortable on her back, whereas Ethan was more confident on his front.  So Hannah started learning the backstroke kick first while Ethan did the forward crawl.

swimcoach2

We would have loved to continue with the coaching sessions under this swim coach, but our schedule currently does not permit.  Perhaps when the next holidays come around, we’ll arrange something.

Meanwhile, I hope to take the kids swimming at least once a week or once a fortnight at least, just to ensure they keep practising. 🙂

toothpouch1

Hannah will turn 6 this year, and she is expecting her first tooth to drop any time soon.  It could be next year too, but we never know.  No wiggly tooth yet, but it could come at an unexpected time. Anyway just to be prepared, I made her a tooth pouch to bring to school too, just like I did one for Ethan last time….you know, just in case the inevitable happens when she is at school.

toothpouch2

She was so happy to see that Mommy finally finished the project, and she even showed her tooth pouch to her teacher!

“Mommy, I really LOVE the tooth pouch you made for me!” she would gush every now and then.

It was my pleasure, sweetie! ♥

hannah-1stday

My little snowflake Hannah starts Kindergarten 2 (K2) today.  Her school is not observing the one-week delay in school start date due to the floods in the East Coast.

How did time fly by so fast?  I could still remember the first day I took her to her Playgroup class 3 years ago… and now she’s all independent and grown-up.

*insert music for reminiscing here*

Anyway, she was very excited and got up on her own at 6:30a.m. today, washed up and got herself ready.  She chose her entire outfit and was pleased as punch that they matched from head to toe.  She wore the hairband I made for her today, so in a way, she took a piece of Mommy along.

Well okay…I’ll stop being so emotional.

Have a splendid year ahead, snowflake! 🙂
